Andrews Charitable Trust (mostly called ACT) was created in 1965 by Cecil Jackson-Cole who was a true philanthropist and entrepreneur. He saw the needs of people around him and founded many charities to answer to that need. Uniquely at the time, he ensured that charities were soundly funded and well managed. As co–founder of Oxfam, he set up the first charity shop and went on to create more than 60 charities, some of which you will recognise today, such as Action Aid and Help the Aged (now Age UK).
Today, we focus on strengthening social purpose organisations that are breaking new ground in tackling housing-related poverty and building housing opportunities in communities.
All the rooms in our Andrews Charitable Trust Establish move-on home are now full, providing a safe, peaceful and beautiful home for care leavers who are ready and preparing for work.
Cecil Jackson-Cole's vision and persistence, backed by his reliance on his own company for risk capital, changed the face of charitable activity in the UK.
