At the start of 2019 Andrews Property Group created an ‘Establish Ambassador’ role within the business with the purpose of engaging staff with the Establish initiative.

David has appointed Nathan Moore to the Ambassador position for a year. Nathan works as a Mortgage and Protection Advisor for Andrews and experienced life in care himself, he is therefore passionate about supporting young people as they become independent. Nathan has trained as a mentor with 1625 Independent People and says “Having been in care, I understand the challenges that these young people are facing. The processes of becoming an independent adult is difficult enough at the best of times, but for those young people leaving the care system the challenges are often amplified if they don’t receive support and guidance.”

When young people leave the care system, they lack the emotional and practical support from family that other young people can rely on when they are settling into living independently. This struggle is amplified by a lack of affordable housing resulting in vulnerable young people often being placed in a location that is poorly connected to work and leisure opportunities. In addition, care leavers are on average living independently at a much earlier age than their peers, before they may feel truly ready.

Nathan adds “I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with some of these young people as a mentor and, hopefully, provide them with the support they need to thrive as they transition in to work or training and get used to living independently.”

To add value to the excellent support provided by 1625IP, Andrews Property Group offers volunteering, mentoring and fundraising opportunities to their staff. The business also gives their professional property skills to the initiative free of charge to source, purchase, lease and manage the houses which the Andrews Charitable Trust buys.
